Winter is coming

Winter is coming :
we all know winter is coming quickly here in Ireland, we can all feel the days getting colder and the nights slowly closing in.

Its time to start bringing out our winter woolies, however we're not the only things that need to be prepared for winter, we must start preparing the flowerbeds for the winter, by planting suitable plants and veg for the upcoming season ...

Winter Plants :
Some plants that can grow and survive in our harsh winters include,

Heather : There are two types of heather winter plants , the lower , spreading types are grown as ground covers, in rockeries, in containers, or for a spot of colour in flower and shrub beds. While the upright kind are the best for variety, massing , spot colour, or as container plants. The flowers of both types are ideal for any winter arrangement.

Pansies :  Pansies are one of the earliest flowering plants, blooming right alongside the spring bulbs, however they're perfectly suitable for the wintertime. The name "pansy" is from the french word "pensie" , which means "thought of rememberance". The pansy is a delicate looking flower. 

Primroses : it is the prima rose or the first "rose", but you can also read this as the prime flower, the most important wildflower of all. Do you know why ? because it blooms up after a long dark winter with its creamy-yellow posies nestling like eggs in those delightful crimped leaves. Everyone loves a primrose, a true one that is .
