we all know winter is coming quickly here in Ireland, we can all feel the days getting colder and the nights slowly closing in.
Its time to start bringing out our winter woolies, however we're not the only things that need to be prepared for winter, we must start preparing the flowerbeds for the winter, by planting suitable plants and veg for the upcoming season
Winter vegetables :
Onions : Onions are bennial plants (which means they can survive winter and grow for two years) but they can be harvested annually. Onions grow best in temperate climates without extreme hot or cold. The time of year the onions are planted affects when they form bulbs. If you plant your bulbs too late in the season, they may not form bulbs properly.
Perpetual spinach : Perpetual spinach makes a perfect 'cut and come again' crop that will produce huge yields of tasty leaves. Early autumn sowings will keep you supplied with tender young leaves throughout winter and with regular harvesting it will continue to crop well into summer.
